Every year, millions of people make their new year’s resolutions and start dieting, detoxing, and exercising!
But honestly, winter is a terrible time to do this!
According to the Five Elements, we enter the Water phase of the year around the winter solstice. The days are shorter, the weather is colder, and, to live in alignment with the season, we’re meant to slow down.
It’s a time to honor our bodies need for warmer foods, quiet days, and getting more rest. Create time to reflect, daydream, and journal. This is the perfect setting to do the inner work and release negative patterns that block us from accomplish our new year’s resolutions!
Many of my patients say they’re feeling more tired right now. That’s the energy of the Water Element calling to us to honor this phase.
Please slow down.
Say ‘no’ to the things that don’t light you up! Give yourself permission to take a nap in the middle of the day or lay about and read a book! Doodle, write poetry, or enjoy a fancy meal! Do whatever you need to do to replenish your energy reserves.
When you do the inner work now, you’re more likely to make your resolutions a reality. Instead of going crazy and burning your energy reserves, make a gentle gesture towards your goals such as:
- Going for a walk
- Being out in nature
- Eliminating sugar, alcohol, or caffeine
- Eating cooked or roasted veggies
- Drink hot tea
- Strategize your plan
Then come spring GO FOR IT! Exercise every day. Do that detox. Go on that diet! That’s the perfect time to take inspired action!
